No, I didn’t throw it. I was invited to a dinner party last Wednesday. BFFperfectionist was kind enough to include me in his evening. It was a dinner of traditional ethnic foods. Middle Eastern foods have spices that I don’t use in my everyday cooking, so it was a unique experience for me.
I volunteered to help out with some of the cooking. I was very excited because his mom had given him the recipes that we were going to use for the night. All of them are very traditional. Now, normally I am a pretty good cook but this particular day I was more like a comedy of errors! What happened to my normally somewhat organized way of working in the kitchen? I fear I will never know…
Fortunately, I was not the sole participant in the food making adventure and things turned out great in the end. BFFlingere was in charge of the kebbe (sp?). And harassed heartily about it I might add. BFFperfectionist probably called her 5 times to make sure she was making it while the meat was still frozen! I was put in charge of watching the finished product while it was under the broiler for one minute… no more. Those were my instructions. I promptly forgot those instructions and left it there for 5 minutes. It was slightly crisp. Maybe more than slightly. Sorry. Prior to that I scorched the nuts that were to be used on the rice. No one was looking so I just took the burned ones out. What was happening to me? Seriously… Did I morph into some ridiculous version of Carol Burnett? I look back and just shake my head.
Despite my best efforts to char the food, everything turned out very good! The company was great and the evening ended up perfect. I got to hang out with friends and meet some new people. Thanks for the invite!
